Ball Valve

Ball Valve Manufacturer in Germany

Valvesonly Europe manufactures ball valves engineered for tight shut off, quarter turn operation, and long term performance across demanding process lines. Our ball valve range covers multiple body designs, bore configurations, and end connections, built to match the pressure, temperature, and media requirements of oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical processing, power generation, marine, and water treatment systems.

Each valve is manufactured to match specific line conditions, from standard process duty to high pressure, high temperature, and corrosive media service.

What is a Ball Valve?

A Ball Valve is a quarter turn valve that uses a hollow, perforated ball to start or stop fluid flow. Rotating the ball 90° opens or closes the flow path, providing fast operation, tight shut off, and low pressure drop. Ball valves are widely used for on/off isolation and are available with manual, pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic actuators.

How Does a Ball Valve Work?

  • The ball is mounted inside the valve body, positioned between an upstream and a downstream seat
  • Turning the stem 90° rotates the ball so its bore lines up with or crosses the pipe axis
  • In the open position, the bore is aligned with the pipe, allowing flow straight through the valve
  • In the closed position, the bore sits perpendicular to the flow path, blocking the passage completely
  • The seats, made from PTFE, RPTFE, PEEK, elastomer, or metal depending on the application, stay in constant contact with the ball to maintain a seal
  • In a floating design, line pressure pushes the ball against the downstream seat to seal
  • In a trunnion design, the ball is held fixed by top and bottom supports while spring-loaded seats provide the sealing force
  • Stem packing and body seals prevent leakage to the outside of the valve during operation
  • The number of turns required to move from open to closed is fixed at a quarter turn, regardless of valve size, which keeps operating time short and consistent

Types of Ball Valve:

  • Double Block and Bleed Ball Valve – Provides double isolation with cavity venting for safe maintenance.
  • Forged Steel Ball Valve – Forged construction for high pressure and high temperature applications.
  • Cast Iron & Cast Steel Ball Valve – Cast body for general industrial and process services.
  • Floating Ball Valve – Floating ball design provides reliable sealing under line pressure.
  • Heavy Duty Investment Casting Ball Valve – Investment cast body for demanding operating conditions.
  • Fully Welded Ball Valve – Welded body for underground and long term pipeline service.
  • Top Entry Ball Valve – Top entry design allows in-line maintenance without pipeline removal.
  • Trunnion Ball Valve – Trunnion mounted ball reduces operating torque in high pressure service.
  • Jacketed Ball Valve – Jacketed body maintains process fluid temperature.
  • Investment Casting Ball Valve – Precision investment cast valve for industrial flow control.

Body Designs and End Connections:

  • Two piece body – body splits into two sections for assembly, offering a compact, cost-effective construction for standard process lines
  • Three piece body – center section can be removed for in-line maintenance without disturbing the pipe connections on either side
  • Single piece welded body – no external body joints, used where leak tight integrity over long periods is required
  • Flanged end connections – bolted flange ends for straightforward installation and removal in flanged piping systems
  • Threaded (screwed) end connections – for smaller sizes and lower pressure lines where a compact, weld free joint is needed
  • Butt weld and socket weld end connections – welded directly into the pipeline for high pressure and high integrity service
  • Wafer style end connections – installed between two flanges using through bolts, reducing overall installation length

Materials of Construction:

  • Carbon steel – general purpose body and trim material for standard pressure and temperature ranges
  • Stainless steel (304, 316, and duplex grades) – used for corrosive media, higher chloride exposure, and hygienic or clean process lines
  • Alloy steel – selected for elevated temperature or higher-strength requirements
  • Cast iron – used for lower pressure, general service lines where cost efficiency is a priority
  • Cast steel – used where higher pressure and temperature ratings are needed beyond cast iron
  • Bronze and brass – used in select smaller sizes for particular media compatibility requirements

Ball and Seat Configurations:

  • Full bore (full port) – bore diameter matches the pipe’s internal diameter, minimizing flow restriction and pressure drop, and allowing pigging where required
  • Reduced bore (standard port) – bore is one size smaller than the pipe, giving a more compact and lighter valve for the same nominal size
  • V-port ball – a V-shaped notch in the ball allows the valve to throttle flow with a more linear flow characteristic than a standard bore
  • Soft seats (PTFE, RPTFE, PEEK) – used for standard to moderately high temperature service, giving low operating torque and tight shut-off
  • Metal seats – used for high temperature, abrasive, or erosive media where soft seat materials would wear or degrade
  • Trunnion mounted vs. floating ball – the choice affects sealing method, operating torque, and suitability for larger sizes and higher pressures

Operation and Actuation:

  • Manual lever operation – direct quarter turn handle operation for smaller valve sizes and lower torque requirements
  • Gear operator – reduces the torque needed to operate larger valves, often paired with a handwheel
  • Pneumatic actuation – air driven actuators for automated on/off or modulating control, suited to fast cycling applications
  • Electric actuation – motor driven operation for remote control, position feedback, and integration with control systems
  • Fire safe design – secondary metal to metal sealing that maintains shut off if the primary soft seat is damaged by fire, used in hydrocarbon and process service
  • Locking devices – lever or gear locks to secure the valve in a fixed open or closed position for safety and isolation procedures
  • Position indicators and limit switches – provide visual or remote confirmation of valve position during automated operation

Industries We Serve:

  • Oil & gas – exploration, production, gathering, and transport pipelines requiring isolation and high pressure containment
  • Petrochemical and chemical processing – corrosive and hazardous media handling across reactors, storage, and transfer lines
  • Power generation – steam, cooling water, and auxiliary systems across thermal and other power plant processes
  • Marine and offshore – shipboard and platform piping systems requiring compact, corrosion resistant valves
  • Water and wastewater treatment – isolation and flow control across treatment, distribution, and pumping systems
  • Pulp and paper – process lines handling pulp stock, chemicals, and steam
  • Mining and mineral processing – slurry, chemical, and process water lines requiring wear resistant trim
