Steam Trap

Steam Trap Manufacturer in Germany

ValvesOnly Europe manufactures and supplies steam traps for the automatic removal of condensate, air, and non-condensable gases from steam systems. Our range includes thermodynamic, thermostatic, ball float, bimetallic, and inverted bucket steam traps designed for power generation, chemical processing, refineries, and industrial steam distribution applications.

What is a Steam Trap?

Steam trap is a mechanical automatic control device that is installed in steam systems at strategic low spots and its role is to discharge condensate and air from the system while preventing loss of steam. This is done by operating automatically depending on different physical properties of condensate and steam.

Working Principle of Steam Traps:

Steam traps operate on one of three basic principles:

  • Density Difference – Mechanical traps use the difference in density between steam and condensate to operate a float or bucket mechanism.
  • Temperature Difference – Thermostatic traps sense the temperature difference between condensate and live steam to open or close.
  • Thermodynamic Principle – Traps that use the difference in pressure and velocity between flash steam and condensate flow to operate a disc mechanism.

Types of Steam Traps:

  • Ball Float Steam Trap – Provides continuous condensate discharge using a float operated mechanism.
  • Thermodynamic Steam Trap – Compact disc type trap suitable for high pressure steam systems.
  • Thermostatic Steam Trap – Operates based on temperature differences between steam and condensate.
  • Bimetallic Steam Trap – Uses bimetallic elements for automatic condensate discharge.
  • Inverted Bucket Steam Trap – Bucket operated design for efficient condensate removal in steam lines.

Selection Criteria for Steam Traps:

  • Steam pressure and temperature at the trap inlet
  • Condensate load and expected load variation
  • Presence of water hammer or superheated steam conditions
  • Required discharge temperature (near steam temperature vs. subcooled)
  • Orientation and installation constraints
  • Resistance to dirt, scale, and corrosive condensate

Installation Points for Steam Traps:

  • Steam main drip legs
  • Tracer lines and jacketed pipelines
  • Heat exchangers and process vessels
  • Steam separators
  • Unit heaters and air handling coils
  • Autoclaves and pressure vessels

Materials of Construction:

Our steam traps are manufactured in carbon steel, stainless steel (CF8, CF8M), ductile iron, and cast iron body construction, with internal trim available in hardened stainless steel for erosion resistance in high velocity condensate discharge conditions.

Custom Built Steam Traps From Valvesonly Europe:

Valvesonly Europe manufactures steam traps to customer specified pressure classes, connection types, and orifice sizes, with in house hydrostatic testing and material traceability for every batch. We supply steam traps across European markets with technical documentation, material test certificates, and sizing support for project specification.
